Hope you have a good Labor Day weekend – wait – here’s your homework.
Time to do a baseline evaluation of your voice. Pages 3 and 4 of your workbook have the questions for this self-evaluation. The first line of each question is for you to fill out on your own. Then in class, we will partner with someone and you will go over the questions again to see if you are hearing the same thing someone else hears. This is due on Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
And the other part of the assignment is your first recorded project. Refer to pages 6 and 7 of your workbook for all the details. We discussed this in detail in class on Wed., Aug. 31, as well as a bit on Monday too.
Remember, this exercise is to help both of us understand how much you are hearing your own voice and basic style of delivery. Stick with straight forward spots – nothing with crazy characters at this point. Nothing with multiple voices. And please pick something with at least 20 seconds worth of copy so that you actually have something to wrap your head around.
And no editing! If you can’t get through the entire 20 – 59 seconds of copy without stopping – just stop – take a breath – back up to the beginning of the sentence that threw you and start from there. If you go back to the beginning, just remember that if this is the 25th time you have started the spot, you will be digging yourself a pretty deep rut that will be hard to get out of – and ultimately all of your reads will sound the same.
Be ready to play back your recorded spot on Wednesday when called on in class. Bring your recording device to class for the in class recording – OR bring in a full size cassette so that we can record on that.
